In order to fuel my love for art while being environmentally conscious I turned to using cardboard at first. This soon developed into a passion of using unwanted and thrown away materials as painting surfaces. I find inspiration from the unique colors and shapes of the material, leveraging the unique stories of the surfaces. Some examples include using the movement of wood pieces or utilizing the stripes in thrown away construction fence pieces.
I began painting and drawing in order to process through my emotions and with time this became a louder voice for me as I saw the power of art and design. I often create a message about climate change, but I have also created pieces around racism, sexism, and many other social issues in our world.
Along with leveraging art for big picture sentiments I have also often used art to communicate love to those in my life - such as this drawing of my mother on her favorite tree in meditation.
I have come to see the power of visual communication in any context. I have found that this can begin important conversations, be thought-provoking, or even polarizing in really interesting ways.
